Speaker Kristen Venter
Kristen Venter is a Creative Executive based in Los Angeles at The Walt Disney Company's headquarters in Burbank, where she works on the International Content team helping drive the development, greenlight, and production pipelines for original series across Canada, EMEA, LATAM, and APAC.
She partners closely with storytellers from diverse creative cultures to champion distinctive, locally rooted, and globally resonant stories for Disney’s global platforms—including Disney+, Hulu and Star. Her team’s slate includes standout series such as Rivals and A Thousand Blows in the UK, Bref in France, the breakout El Encargado franchise in Argentina, Moving in Korea, and Gannibal in Japan—projects that reflect Disney’s ambition to scale bold storytelling from every corner of the world.
As Disney continues to deepen its participation in Canadian storytelling, Kristen is energized by the opportunity to foster creative exchange between Canadian and global voices, leveraging the region’s dynamic talent base and production strength.
Kristen brings to this work a deeply international perspective. Born and raised in South Africa, she spent formative years in London before relocating to Los Angeles, where she is now based. Her global upbringing continues to shape her passion for storytelling that crosses cultures, genres, and geographies.
Prior to joining Disney, Kristen held key creative and strategic roles at Netflix, where she supported the development of global feature hits including Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, The Gray Man, and The Harder They Fall. While there, she also spearheaded The Booster Initiative, a company-wide program funded by Netflix’s Creative Equity Fund to accelerate opportunities for BIPOC talent in Production Finance.
Earlier in her career, Kristen worked at William Morris Endeavor (WME), where she adapted quickly across talent, TV literary, and motion picture departments, deepening her understanding of representation and the studio landscape. She also supported series development at FX Networks and 20th Century Fox Television prior to the Disney-Fox merger.
Beyond her studio work, Kristen is passionate about storytelling with social and environmental impact. She co-produced Between the Rains, a vérité documentary set in Kenya that follows a young boy navigating a community on the frontlines of environmental upheaval. The film premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, where it won both Best Documentary and Best Cinematography, and stands as a testament to Kristen’s dedication to impact-driven storytelling inspired by her global upbringing.
Kristen holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Cinematic Arts from the University of Southern California, where she was a Division I student-athlete on the USC Women’s Tennis team. A tri-citizen of South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, she brings a global perspective to every story she touches. Kristen is driven by the belief that great storytelling—original, inclusive, and emotionally resonant—is at the heart of Disney’s DNA, and that powerful narratives can emerge from anywhere in the world. She remains committed to championing stories that entertain, inspire, and spark connection across cultures and continents.
